EQUALITY OF ACCESS TO ASSESSMENT

AWSEC assesses all candidates in a way that puts them at no disadvantage, or advantage, over other candidates.

Reasonable Adjustments (Pre-Assessment)

A reasonable adjustment is any action that helps to reduce the effect of a physical challenge or learning difficulty that places a candidate at a substantial disadvantage in an assessment situation. Reasonable adjustments are approved and put in place before the assessment takes place and may involve:

• Changing standard assessment arrangements, (e.g. allowing extra time to complete the assessment activity)

• Adapting assessment materials (e.g. providing materials in large text format)

• Re-organising the assessment room (e.g. removal of visual stimuli for a candidate who is on the spectrum)

Special Consideration (Post-Assessment)

Special consideration is an action taken after an assessment to allow candidates who have been disadvantaged by temporary illness, injury or adverse circumstance(s) at the time of the assessment.

You may be eligible for special consideration if:

• Performance in an assessment is affected by circumstances beyond your control (e.g. recent personal illness, accident or bereavement)

• Alternative assessment arrangements which were agreed in advance of the assessment proved inadequate

• The application of special consideration would not mislead the user of the certificate as to your attainment

Applying For Reasonable Adjustments or Special Consideration

Reasonable adjustments and special consideration cannot be granted without the agreement of the relevant organisation whose qualification is being assessed.

You are encouraged to inform us if you would like to apply for reasonable adjustments or special consideration at the time of enrolment. An application form (which must have supporting evidence*) must be submitted. You will be provided with an application form and informed of the relevant application requirements and timeframe by a member of our Client Services Department.
